In this workshop you will learn how to apply encaustics to photographic prints. Penny demonstrates techniques on adhering prints to panels, then preserving and enhancing images with wax. You will also learn how to embed found objects in your final work.

Learn the ancient art of encaustic painting, an art of melting waxes of all colors and experimenting with wax’s unlimited textures. Explore several techniques using pigmented wax and a blow torch to fuse layers to birch panels. In this workshop you will learn how to apply encaustics to photographic prints. Demo techniques will teach how to adhere prints to panels, then preserving and enhancing images with wax. You will also learn how to embed found objects in your final work. Safety and specialty equipment will be covered. Materials provided, minus the Material fee of 8×10 birch panels. 8×10 birch panels available for purchase on day of class $12 each.
